The first Spitfires from the Advanced Flying School at Ambala reached Srinagar and were soon engaged in strafing the raiders beyond Pattan. Within a week, the Tempests of No. 7 Squadron were playing a decisive role in the battle of Shelatang which halted the forward momentum of the insurgents.

11/14/1967	Kanakaiya Nayudu Colonel Cottari , cricketer (7 Tests for India in 30's), passed away at Indore.
7/22/1998	24-year old P T Usha won bronze medals in the 400m and 200m races and anchored the 4x100m relay team to gold and 4x400m for silver at the Asian Track and Field Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
