4/4/1898	Hiralal Sen and his brother Motilal Sen purchased a Bioscope Cinematographic Machine from London. The first show of imported films was arranged by them at Classic Theatre on April 4, after which they formed 'The Royal Bioscope Co.,' controlled by H. L. Sen & Bros., 85/2, Maszid Badi Street, Calcutta. The Bioscope Company started touring the provinces of Bengal, Orissa and Bihar.
1/14/1999	At least 51 persons are killed and several injured in a stampede at a hilltop at Pampa on the foothills of Sabarimala in Kerala.
10/17/1995	BJP withdraws support to Mayavati Government in Uttar Pradesh. UP Governor Motilal Vohra accepts the resignation of Mayawati and her cabinet but asks her to continue as caretaker government. BJP's top brass takes the final decision to break with the BSP.
11/14/1964	Nehru Commemorative coin is released.
7/22/1992	Security scam: Planning Commission member V. Krishnamurthy resigns.
4/1/1878	Calcutta Museum was opened for general public.
8/19/1946	Cabinet Mission's plan announced an interim government, which was formed by reconstituting the Viceroy's Executive Council. The Muslim League took umbrage and started direct action. Riots broke out as Muslims attacked Hindu's in Calcutta and the rest of Bengal. The Viceroy persuaded the Muslim League to join the government. But the League declined to join the Constituent Assembly unless the demand for a seperate state of ""Pakistan"" was conceded.
6/23/1927	All India Radio's broadcasting service started in 1927 by privately owned transmitter at Bombay and Calcutta.
3/17/1997	A Delhi court sentences former Union Minister Kalpnath Rai to 10 years RI.
8/15/1947	At the stroke of midnight, India is free after 163 years of British Raj. At the same time Muslims win a degree of freedom from Hindus. They have their own separate dominion Pakistan in the British Commonwealth Sect.
